Studio Guest:
I was a conservator of archaeological art and artifacts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for 30 years before deciding to retire early in order to pursue my love of pottery. My previous career not only shapes my aesthetic choices as a potter, but also provided me with a good understanding of the ceramic materials and technologies used from ancient times to the present. I am drawn to weathered and imperfect surfaces; I enjoy experimenting with different clay bodies, glazes, and firing techniques; and I am enamored with the interaction of light glazes and slips with a dark clay body. I work from my home studio and fire in both gas and electric kilns.
